White Tigers, also called Snow Tigers, have a recessive gene that makes them unique. Originally thought to be Siberian tigers, a white tiger can be born to a regular tiger parent, provided that both parents have this gene. True wild white tigers are exteremely rare and considered by some to be extinct - in the wild, a white tiger birth is thought to occur only 1 in 10,000 instances. What is seen in zoos and in entertainment venues are white tigers produced in captivity through severe inbreeding, which many zoologists don't condone.
